I think I’ve flailed all over the place enough on the fact that our favorite FanFiction story, “Master of the Universe”, is getting published. BUUUUUT, we already have new info on its publishing, so we gotta keep talkin’ about it gurls!!
First off, we knew the title was going to have to change because “Master of the Universe” has already been taken by a cartoon series from the 1980s…anyone remember “He-Man”? I wonder if Snowqueens Icedragon was aware of this when she titled MOTU. In fact, one of the questions that I forgot to ask in our final podcast with Icy was what she’d name her book if it was to be published, and I was going to mention the fact that MOTU was technically already taken by a cartoon.
Oh, like that question wouldn’t have made things even more awkward for her!! Looking back at the podcast now, I realize Icy was very quiet during the publishing line of questioning!!! Obvy the publishing deal was already in the works, but at the time, we just chalked it up to her British humbleness! HA! Before I heard the new title, I couldn't think of anything other than simply, “Fifty Shades”, but the new title is (drum roll please)…“Fifty Shades of Grey”, with Fifty’s infamous grey tie as the cover art for the book.
But “Grey” isn’t simply referring to the color of his and Bella’s favorite tie; it’s Fifty’s new name. Folks, meet Christian Grey (aka Edward Cullen). Being that we’re all majah “Twilight” fans, the name Edward Cullen is so iconic that it’s going to be hard for us to see him as anything other than Edward, but honestly, they couldn’t have picked a hotter backup name! When I picture a guy named Christian Grey, I picture a tall, good looking man in a fitted suit and tie – debonair as hell! So I’m good with Mr. Grey. Like this --------------------------->
Now what about Bella? Well folks, meet Anastasia Steele, but you can call her Ana! AHHH, I love this name! It’s perfect! Ana and Christian, Ana and Fifty – I can dig it!
The big question: when can we get our sticky hands on this book? Pre-orders go on sale April 28, 2011 and the publication date is May 26th. I know right – super freaking fast! This tells me that this dealio has been in the works for a loooong time. Who knows, perhaps the publisher, TWCS, is a fan of Pop Culture Junkie and watched mine and Bulletsucker’s September podcast where we talked about wanting to buy the rights to MOTU and publish it. They freaking stole our idea damn it! Oh well, I’m just glad it’s getting published. This just makes birthdays and Christmas in 2011 really easy because I already know what I’m getting everybody!
So, to celebrate MOTU, er, “Fifty Shades of Grey’s” release, we’ll obvy need to go out and buy it and read it again as a part of our PCJ book club! It’ll be fun to re-live the magic all over again, but with some changes that keep it feeling new!
Alright gurls, you tell me; are you a fan of the new MOTU title? And what do you think of Edward and Bella’s new names? Can you dig Christian and Ana?
And P.S. Icy has a realz name….she’s E L James! Imagine that! But idk, she’ll always be Icy to me!

Comment by Nicole on March 10, 2011 at 6:59am I like Christian Grey! Very sexy! I think Anastasia is a little cheesy~ but plain Ana is fine.
We really can't complain~ of course she had to change the names...both first and last.
I would have loved to see MOTU as the title...but this one's pretty good! Everytime I go through the channels and see "Masters of the Universe" listed (Dolph Lungren movie) my heart skips a beat!
As long as the smut stays, I'm okay with the names! ;)
