It's time for HOT READS (Hint: FIFTY SHADES OF GREY!), cool cocktails, and the pool!!

I spent a long, Father's Day weekend in Vegas, with the Father of my three grown children.  Really, any excuse to get to Vegas works for me.

Vegas was hoppin, and the pools were the place to be.  I ordered my re-fillable yardstick frozen margarita, and plopped down on a poolside lounge chair with my summer read:  FIFTY SHADES OF GREY by  E L. James (Icy).

The temperature continued to rise - in my loungechair!!  We've all read "Master of the Universe" (MOTU), right....right??  Anyhoo - the re-tooling of Fifty Shades, to seperate itself from FanFiction WORKS!  Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are the perfect characters to keep you captivated.

"Who says we're going to sleep?" he murmurs softly.

"Oh" Holy hell.

He strolls slowly toward me.  Confident, sexy, eyes blazing and my heart begins to pound.  My blood's pumping around my body.  Desire, thick and hot, pools in my belly.  He stands in front of me, staring down into my eyes.  He's so freaking hot.

Yeah. I know.....

Ana and Christian weave through the start of a relationship -- with a contract unlike any I have ever seen! This story had me obsessed.  The clever dialogue, snarky e-mails, and under-current of HAWT, sexual tension with these two keeps you entranced.  The supporting cast is around just enough to be a sidenote - this is all Ana & Christian - and it is all LEMONS.

"He gazes down at me, and suddenly, he pulls me into his arms and he is kissing me, kissing me passionately.  It takes me completely by surprise, and I sense his panic and desperate need in his kiss.

Here is my issue:  It turns out this will be a trilogy!!!!  This literally ends with the end of part one of MOTU.

AHHHHHHH, the frustration.  I am on a sequel/trilogy angst trip:  Twilight, Hunger Games, Matched, Delerium, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Passage & now FIFTY SHADES??!! Ugh, in trilogy form.

So now we wait, until early fall. Pre-orders for "A Darker Shade of Grey" can be done at Amazon in August.  That feels like a bazillion years away! I will miss Ana and Christian, but have an alert in my phone for August, as well as the ability to read on Kindle and in hardback - and I will re-read!

In closing, I want to mention that as I sat down with my re-filled margarita, I glanced across the pool and saw another gal with a cocktail and a copy of "Fifty Shades"!!!!!  We did the "secret club" chin nod, and buried ourselves into the magic from ICY!  So a big thank you from my husband, for an extra specially fun Fathers Day in Vegas.......*sighs*

Love this post, Colleen! It seriously makes me want to throw down my "Baby Nurse Bible" book that I'm currently reading and jump right into "Fifty Shades of Grey"! Can't wait to see the differences and experience the book with Ana and Christian as the names! BTW, I think it's SO cool -- and a small world -- that you saw another chick in Vegas at the pool reading FSoG! Too freaking cool! Of course you did the cool nod, but I would've raced over to her and been all; "so where are you in the book and what do you think of every single detail; etc." HA!

I didn't go talk to her because she was with her Man, I was on my second LARGE drink & it seemed "cooler" to just ID each other!

I loved the "Dragon Tattoo" books - but they are big commitments and heavy reads.  The next BIG, HOT series is Hunger Games.  It currently being filmed and will be 4 movies.  I am shocked if you have not been part of the hype for this series - just GOOGLE - The Hunger Games.  You can see the current cast list, and the books are TERRIFIC.  Easy reads, and unique.  Absolutley read those - yep a trilogy - ugh.

Oh, we've talked about having the Hunger Games become part of PCJ's book club! In fact, I think @Bulletsucker has already started reading them, right B?

Colleen - agree with your review 100% and can't wait for the other books - even though I know how the story goes!! I fluv these characters so much and like the way the story's been "tightened up" through the editing process (the typos are another issue!). I think it's a tribute to the quality of Icy's story/writing that I could read this published version and accept the changes from MOTU. D'ya know what I mean? I was worried that I'd be compating the two, but found I didn't. *spoiler* I do miss the green eyes, though.

That being said, I HATE where they ended this first book and I'm trying to figure out how they'll put the remaining story in only two more editions, but whatev....I'll leave it to the professionals and retain my amateur status. BTW thanks for the heads up on pre-orders for the next book. They can have my credit card again!!

@court....I can't believe your self-control....as soon as I got the book I tore into it....maybe that says something about me?! And I don't know if I woulda been as cool as Colleen at the pool with her companion reader, cocktails or not!

@Papercut18 -- I think the self-control has a bit to do with the fact that I'm about to pop a baby out any day now and I feel like reading about breastfeeding and the color of poo is more relevant to me at the moment!!! But I've read that I should take some "light reading" materials with me to the hospital in case I have a long labor where I'm laying around a lot not really doing much. So I've been thinking Fifty could pose a good distraction for me! But this is probably fairytale land and I doubt I'll be reading about S&M mid-labor! HA!

@papercut18 I think that motu & fsog play out differently in the end. I'm pretty sure icy added to the story for publishing purposes. I'm really looking forward to this trilogy!

@courtney if you're reading fsog during labor it just may speed things along?! Good luck with that!
